childcareApprenticeships are a great starting point for getting your future career on the right track. Apprenticeships are dynamic qualifications that strike the perfect balance between training, study and work.

As an Apprentice you’ll be placed with an employer who will train you in a job role and help you to gain your qualification. If you like the idea of earning a real wage and obtaining skills and qualifications to ensure a bright future, then an Apprenticeship is definitely what you’re looking for. With the support of STC you can choose from a number of career paths as we offer a range of Apprenticeships from Administration to Child Care, Construction to Accountancy.

There are four elements to an Apprenticeship and these are: a Competence Qualification (QCF), Technical Certificate, Functional Skills and End Point Assessment (as required).

Competence Qualification

QCFs are nationally recognised qualifications that reflect how well you do your job and how much you know about your job role. Completing a QCF/ NVQ shows your employer that you understand your role and you’ll be helped by STC to prove this.

Our staff will also make regular visits to you at work to guide you through the qualification.

The main part of completing a QCF/ NVQ involves collecting evidence of your everyday tasks and completing a series of units. Some units are essential, others are optional, but all of them count towards your portfolio which can be completed on paper or online.

In many cases QCF/ NVQs can be completed using ePortfolios. This is an online system that allows you to communicate with your Manager and STC using the internet.

With ePortfolio you gain your qualification by following an online training plan and creating an electronic portfolio

Functional Skills

These are essential skills that you use in everyday life as well as in the workplace. There are three Functional Skills, these are: Maths, English and, Information Technology. You’ll probably have already come across these skills at school.

Technical Certificates

These are aimed at developing your skills and knowledge in the technical aspects of the job you do. The focus of Technical Certificates is job theory and it is taught by qualified STC staff usually away from the workplace.

End Point Assessment

A new development in apprenticeships standards is an independent assessment at the end of your programme. These take a number of different forms, including professional discussions, projects, assignments and tests. STC will inform you of any assessment that is required.

These are usually away from the workplace.

If you are unsure whether to take the Apprenticeship, Traineeship or Training route, then why not come in and see us and discuss the options further.
